Singapore Folktales - The Valuess Behind Them

Singapore Folktales
— the values behind them

Singapore Folktales is an event campaign targeted towards children and youths. Many from the younger generation are growing up in a digital age, and tend to think that Singapore is boring without much of a rich history.

Thus, as a way to educate them of our folklore as well as with the secondary aim of imparting with them important values, Singapore Folktales was created.
— Moodboard & Chosen Stories

As this event is targeted towards a younger audience, a lot of the activites will have their own unique ways of tactile and environmental immersion. Pulling inspiration from the old 'kampong' vibes, the setting of the event has been built.

The different Singapore folklores chosen are Badang, Radin Mas, (the history of) Bukit Merah and Sisters' Island. These stories were specifcally chosen as they had the storytelling potential, as well as had value and teachings that can be learned.
— Chosen Location & Layout

The chosen location for this event is The Float @ Marina, which is 120M x 83M big.

To best fill up & plan the event space, the stories are arranged under a seconday storyline that links them all loosely, creating a flow so as to not seem abrupt.
— Highlighting Touchpoints

These are some of touchpoints that will be included in their respective stories. The sampan (on the left) will be used in the room of Sisters' Island, while the custom Wayang Kulit set up will be placed in the room for Badang.

These are the main attractions and point of interactions in their respective rooms.
— Rendered Rooms

These are the rendered rooms of each story, showcasing the highlights of each room. They are as follows:

1) Badang - A Wayang Kulit show + creating your own puppet
2) Sisters' Island - Screening of the show with 4D elements, and immersive actors
3) Radin Mas - Mini escape room, solve puzzles and escape before the king catches you
4) Bukit Merah - Holographic battlefield, survive and evade the swordfish
— Marketing

There will be two channels for publicity, one being on social media and another public one on buses and bus stops.

A unique form of publicity was considered and implemented for the project to increase the number of people who will be exposed to it, and will be much more memorable for them as it has a higher percentage of piquing their interest.
— Media Engagement Campaign

To kick start and introduce the event, there will be a press conference held in one of the ballrooms at Marina Bay Sands. At the event, there will be a mini version of the sampan touchpoint to serve as a sneak peek of the actual event.

The goal is to create an increase buzz surounding the event, and  to eventually gain more people to visit and participate in the main event.
